Clean Registry

By Andrew Collier

When it comes to computers, most people only know the basics. They know that they can type, print, send emails, use the net and other basic and standard use of the computers. Most users do not know terms and words that have something to with the system itself. All they know are the programs that they use. Most people do not know what a computer registry is. This computer registry is a place where all the information of the softwares and programs that are installed in your computer are stored. Everytime you install a program in your computer, it will have data that will be stored in the registry.

A lot of people do not know this database because they don’t really encounter these terms but what a user should know is that, they must have a clean registry. Computer users need to do this because viruses and spywares can affect the computer registry files. When it does, it could affect the other programs in your system as well. Also, even if you uninstall a program properly, there also cases wherein some files of the program will still be left in the registry. This would just take up space in your memory so deleting them would be better.

One way to have a clean registry is to do it manually. This means that you will access the windows registry, edit and remove the files yourself. Here are the steps on how to access it:

1. Click on the START button and select “Run”

2. A new window will appear. Type “regedit” on the space and click “ok”

3. On the new window that will appear, you will see “File” on the upper left. Click and select “Export”

4. Type the name of the backup file and click on “Save”

To check if you have properly backed-up the file, you can just look on the left side of the registry editor and see if you’ve seen the file that you’ve made. Although these steps may seem easy, most of the time, computer technicians are the ones who does this type of computer work because it could be complicated for some. They wouldn’t know which ones to edit or remove.

An easier way to have a clean registry is to use a registry cleaning software. When you use this, it would automatically clean the registry for you. For those who do not know or understand what a computer or windows registry is, it is better to have this in your system. It will remove all the unnecessary files with simple clicks and instructions. It is a lot simpler and easier for most users.

Computer programs can take up a lot of space because of the files inside the program. So once you’ve uninstalled it, it is better to remove all the necessary files with it. Whether you understand the registry or not, to be sure and safe, just have a registry cleaning software installed in your computer. So you just have to access it if you would need your registry to be cleaned.

Can I Go Online For a Free Registry Clean?

By Logan Albright

Registry cleaners are available online for anyone to download and the variety and range of the software available are actually quite eclectic. I think that is the one problem that people face when looking for a good and free registry cleaner to solve their computer slow down problems – or to just do maintenance on their registry. There are several things you should look out for when choosing a free registry clean online.

Firstly, always be wary of sales copy written on the website; anyone can tout and impress to no end with claims and sweeping statements, but there is such a thing as going too far. In the area of registry cleaners, the product should really be selling itself; personally, I would give more attention to those websites who have a clean approach and a matter of fact list of what the software can do than I would those who use big bold red letters promising you the world.

Also, a registry cleaner is never truly a single focused product because computer slowdowns are an interlinked problem within any computer’s matrix. Since the registry deals with almost everything to do within the Windows environment and online connectivity, a registry cleaner should now represent a holistic solution to people’s problem. Looking at a few cleaners on the market, a few of the good ones, I noticed a trend towards value added support for people with computer slowdown problems.

Just an example, most of the cleaners now provide support for aspects of the internet explorer browser like temporary internet files, cookies, history, recently typed URLs, lost .dat files and even form completion. They are able to track all those files that you do not need and are just taking up space and delete them from the system. They are also able to delve into other aspects of the explorer environment and system settings like recycle bin issues, memory dumps, fragmented files, MRUs and start menu options.

Many of the cleaners available online provide the option to review the start up programs running on computers and remove those that were non essential. Of course, going into the issue of the registry, any good registry cleaner should be able to get rid of most common problems like missing shared DLLs, unused file extensions, Active X and Class issues, application command lines, orphan keys, obsolete software etc.

The list is actually quite long, but it is a critical list of all the possible ways that your computer can be slowed down. For anyone looking for a registry cleaner online, I would say that there are many for you to choose from. Like any purchasing decision, free or not, you need to do research on the software that has caught your eye and ensure it has good reviews. Many independent editorials and online software sites provide such information, including user testimonials. It is a good start for you to make a decision and be rid of all your slowdowns in your PC.

Registry Clean Up – Why Your Computer Needs It

By John Clayton

For many people who do not know that their computer has on it, a registry cleaner can be a great idea. Oftentimes, people have computers for a year and two, and then begin to experience slower speeds when they are using it. This is not usually a problem with the hardware of the computer, but the actual software of the computer has become clogged. People sometimes install programs, and then never uninstall them. You may have thousands of videos you have watched, but never deleted off your hard drive. Any time you are having a slow down on a older computer, you should try a registry clean up.

Before you start your registry clean up, you should remove any programs that you no longer use. You can do this by going into the add/remove program utility in your windows control panel. Once you have removed these programs, make sure to delete them from the recycle bin as well. A great tool that will do this, and even more is the disk cleanup utility. It removes temporary internet files, cache, and recycle bin files to help increase the space available for other files on your hard drive.

Now that you have removed all the files that you can, purchase a registry cleaner. A registry cleaner is the tool that will be able to do a registry clean-up for you. While there may be a free registry cleaner that does an alright job, there are very few that will not further infect your computer, or that have unlimited features as free software. Purchasing a registry cleaner also offers you support in the rare case a malfunction does occur with the program. Now that you have purchased your registry cleaner, install it. Before you begin your registry cleaning, you will want to make a backup of your registry. You can do this by going into the start menu, run, and type “regedit”. A window will pop up, click on file, and then export to get a copy of your registry. Make sure to put this on a piece of removable media such as a CD, DVD or USB stick.

Then run the registry clean-up. The registry cleaner will remove excess program files from windows installer, replace DLL files that are missing, and also find any deep rooted infections from viruses or spyware in your registry. While the registry cleaner will usually find a lot of the problem files, it may not always find everything. You should remove the problems that the registry cleaner has found and then restart your computer in order to allow the registry to reboot in a clean state. With the removal of all of these excess files, you should see a dramatic increase in speed. While not all registry cleaners work equally, most will be able to save you anywhere from five to thirty seconds off the startup time of your computer. Many files are placed onto your computer by programs that you use one time, and then forget about. In order to remove these files, and any potential infections you will want to use a proven registry cleaner to clean out all of your computer’s problems.

How Can a Free Windows Registry Cleaner Help Fix My Computer?

By Logan Albright

How can a free windows registry cleaner help fix my computer is a question that a lot will be asking; and this is just by looking at the number of free system cleaners and registry scanners that are available online. While their sheer numbers certainly show a trend in the market for electronic conveniences that help to sort out specific, crucial computer matters, there does not seem to be strong evidence pertaining to the quality of the free Windows registry cleaners available online.

Before anyone can understand why these small and free programs are actually quite crucial to any computer user, you have to understand the very nature of the registry and what it can actually do to your computer when it isn’t taken care of. Many of us are living in a sort of ignorant bliss as our computer slowly ticks down to its slower than the speed of anything we have ever known and of course, thinking we know better as computer consumers, we go out and buy new processors, new hardware and more memory in the hope of speeding up the computer.

The problem here is that most of us do not realise the potential power of the registry to actually create a bottleneck in the system and cause Windows to have some massive slowdowns. The registry is like the matrix of the system, as well as a sort of digital log book where Windows tracks all software and hardware activities in the form of command lines, codes and embedded keys; just to name a few. The function of these data is to ensure that programs run correctly, runtime errors do not occur, hardware conflicts do not happen, crucial system and driver data for programs and hardware executions are maintained. Now while this is a simple thing for Windows to achieve, the registry is quite vulnerable to attacks from viruses and Trojans, not to mention the most virulent of enemies, which can be called ‘period of prolonged unmaintained use’ of the system.

Bad program installs, computer crashes, hardware conflicts are just some of the things that can cause bad keys, null values, orphaned data and even confusing command lines to exist within the registry itself. This means there is a great flaw in how Windows launches programs and the very integrity of the superstructure of the computer, no matter if it is hardware or software, will be compromised. The list of problems that can be traced to an over convoluted registry is extremely long and the problems due to virus intrusions within its matrix is even longer.

Thankfully, a free registry cleaner can get rid of more than 90% of these problems just by cleaning up the registry and making sure that all the information is correct. Loose information, orphan keys and null values are checked against system data and rectified and people who have bothered to give the registry this freely available first aid kit has experienced a rebirth of their computers, with speeds comparable when they first bought the system in the first place.

Windows Registry Recovery – Recovering From Malicious Attacks on Your Registry

By Logan Albright

While Windows is a piece of engineering marvel, it is not a perfect environment, as we all know. It is prone to crashes, shutdowns, lock ups and sudden freezes that have been part-and-parcel of owning and running a Windows based PC for the many years that it has been in the market. One of the many vulnerabilities of the computer is the malicious attacks that Windows can suffer from the hands of Trojans, viruses, malware, adware and worms – which can debilitate and even destroy a computer. The defence has of course been put in place and made available on the open market, with many people already installing all sorts of antivirus and anti spyware programmes to boost the defence of the computer.

Many modern modems with broadband capabilities have in fact firewalls to bolster the defence and Windows itself has an internal firewall to help to dissuade malicious software from entering the supreme environment of the operating system. Even with these multi-tiered defences in place, Windows is still left vulnerable to attacks, especially when it comes to its exposure to the internet. Viruses and Trojans can be cleverly hidden and disguised as harmless programs and email attachments, of which some anti virus programs do not have the ability to detect. Some have been designed to fly below the radar of the many defences of the computer and sneak in parts, reassembling itself when all of the necessary code has been transferred to the memory banks of the computer via the internet.

Other ways include piggy backing on large files and data programs which the user will install on the system. If you look at antivirus programmes today, their virus definition files are updated on almost a daily basis, which means that programmers and hackers out there are morphing and producing new and more virulent viruses on a daily basis, which leaves the computer user at quite a dilemma. Not updating for a day could mean the difference between a safe environment or infection. One of the main things that a virus attacks would be the registry, one of the most important files in the Windows environment. How does one recover when the registry is compromised?

The best way is to download, install and run a Registry Cleaner, which can and will remove all the extra code and bad commands left behind by the Trojan or virus. What they do when they enter the registry is to add random bits of code or commands that would allow them access to other parts of the PC, or even delete chunks of information, which would give null values a rampant run on the registry, and eventually, lead to crashes. What a registry cleaner does is get rid of all the problems once Windows restores part of the registry (from a stored backup), necessary to restoring your computer to its previous, healthy state. With a registry cleaner, no matter how malicious the attack, the chances of a recovery would be greatly enhanced. All it takes for a more secure feeling where your computer is concerned is a simple download.
