How to manipulate the hosts file.

www.pc1news.com The hosts file is a computer file used to store information on where to find a network connection or intersection on a computer network. This file maps hostnames to IP addresses. In other words, when you type in a web page address, the browser has to translate it to an IP address. The IP address directs the browser to the exact location of the web page you typed in. Take a look at How to modify the hosts file video and learn where to find the hosts file, how it looks, how it can be manipulated and how to repair a compromised hosts file.

Can you help me maybe? I try to block [girlsgogames nl] and did all the stuff in your vid, but it still works. What do I have to do to block it? Only this one, it redirects other sites well, so the file works…

lol you obviously didnt understand the concept here at all. You shouldnt even have to think about this. If this gives you a hard time, just STOPPP what you are doing, chances are you are going to end up in trouble. This is about as simple as any of this stuff will get.

localhost means your computer, that is the “local” host. local as in without leaving your network. get it? your computer “hosts” your connection.

can i say something assuming that person needs this vid to go to youtube and other sites how would he/she view?

No it’s localhost which means your computer it the code used for your computer so it refers back to your system.

Is this 127.0.0.1 the standard for personal computer? Can a malicious site copycat that ip and infect other URL?
Does “localhost” prevent that happen?

Is that why is it important the localhost?

In my XP I couldn’t save the file. My hosts file had spybot influence, I can not figure why I couldn’t save. But good It let me save it in another folder location and then change I moved the edited hosts file.
pc1news thanks a lot for this video with a great quality explanation.

when i try to save my newly edited host file it says. “Cannot create the c:windowssystem32driversetchosts file. make sure that the path and file name are correct.”

Thanks 😉 I’ll try to trick my younger brother and redirect his favourite online game web page to some news site :))))))))))))
